Women come to counseling for countless reasons, and no two stories are the same. What brings one woman through our doors may be completely different from what brings another.
Some of the concerns we commonly see include:
According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), women are more likely than men to experience certain mental health conditions, including major depressive episodes and anxiety disorders. This isn’t because women are inherently more vulnerable—it’s connected to biological factors, life experiences, and the social realities women navigate every day.
Understanding this context matters. It helps explain why counseling designed specifically for women can feel different—and why the environment you heal in makes a difference.
A 100% Women-Owned and Women-Operated Organization
Aurora Recovery for Women was founded by Andrea and Róisín with a clear vision: to create a space where women could receive care from people who truly understand what it means to be a woman in the world today.
Every member of our clinical team is a woman. This isn’t a marketing decision—it’s foundational to who we are. We believe that when women are treated by women, in a space designed for women, something shifts. The need to explain or justify yourself fades. The walls come down a little easier.
Personalized Care That Honors Your Story
We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all treatment. Your experiences, your strengths, your challenges—they’re yours alone. The counseling for women in Danvers that we provide begins with listening. Really listening. From there, we work together to create a treatment approach that makes sense for your life.
This might include individual therapy, group sessions, skill-building, and other therapeutic approaches depending on your needs and the program you’re in.
Safety and Connection as the Foundation
Feeling safe isn’t a luxury in mental health treatment—it’s a requirement. Research consistently shows that therapeutic relationships and the treatment environment significantly influence outcomes.
A study published in the journal Psychotherapy found that the quality of the therapeutic alliance—the relationship between client and therapist—is one of the most consistent predictors of positive treatment outcomes across various types of therapy.
This is why we prioritize connection. It’s why we’ve built an all-female environment. It’s why we take the time to understand each woman who walks through our doors.
Designed by women who truly understand the lived experience behind healing.
A deeper approach that focuses on understanding, not just managing symptoms.
A space grounded in connection, where women feel supported every step of the way.
Ongoing support and relationships that extend far beyond your time in a program.
We guide our clients through every phase of treatment to ensure a seamless continuation of care.
Aurora offers structured treatment programs that provide more intensive support than traditional weekly outpatient counseling. If you’ve tried weekly therapy and found it wasn’t enough, or if you’re facing challenges that need more consistent support, these programs may be a good fit.
Our day treatment program offers comprehensive mental health treatment in Danvers, MA for women who need significant support while still living at home. This program typically involves several hours of treatment per day, multiple days per week.
Day treatment includes a combination of individual therapy, group therapy, and skill development. It's designed for women who need more than weekly appointments but don't require residential care.
For women who need structured support but have afternoon or evening commitments—whether work, childcare, or other responsibilities—our morning half day treatment program provides concentrated care earlier in the day.
This program includes many of the same therapeutic elements as day treatment, adapted to a half day format.
We understand that life doesn't pause for healing. Many women have jobs, families, or other daytime obligations that make traditional treatment schedules impossible. Our evening half day treatment program offers the same quality of care in a timeframe that works for women with daytime responsibilities.
Traditional outpatient counseling typically involves meeting with a therapist once a week for about an hour. While this can be valuable for many concerns, some women need more support—especially during difficult periods or when facing complex challenges.
Our day treatment and half day treatment programs provide more hours of care per week, more frequent contact with your treatment team, and more opportunities to practice new skills in a supportive environment. Think of it as a more immersive experience that can help you build momentum during a critical time.
We work with most major insurance carriers to help ease the costs associated with seeking help at our programs. We’ll walk you through your benefits so you can move forward with clarity and confidence.
Trauma-Focused Counseling
Many women carry the effects of trauma, whether from childhood experiences, abusive relationships, assault, accidents, or other painful events. Trauma-focused counseling acknowledges that these experiences change us—and that healing is possible.
Our clinicians understand that trauma affects women in specific ways. They’re trained to work with trauma sensitively, creating space for healing without pushing you faster than you’re ready to go.
Dual Diagnosis Treatment for Women
When mental health concerns and substance use occur together, they often reinforce each other. Treating one without addressing the other rarely leads to lasting change.
Dual diagnosis treatment for women at Aurora addresses both concerns simultaneously, recognizing how they interact in your life. This integrated approach is widely recognized as more effective than treating each issue separately.
SAMHSA’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health has found that among adults with substance use disorders, a significant percentage also experience co-occurring mental illness—highlighting why integrated treatment matters.
Taking the first step can feel overwhelming. We want you to know what to expect so the process feels less uncertain.
When you contact Aurora, you’ll speak with someone who can answer your initial questions and learn about what’s bringing you to seek support. If our programs seem like a potential fit, we’ll discuss next steps, which may include a more detailed assessment.
We’ll be honest with you. If we’re not the right fit for your needs, we’ll do our best to point you toward resources that might help. Our goal is for you to get the care you need—whether that’s with us or somewhere else.
If you’ve read this far, something here resonated with you. Maybe you recognized yourself in the descriptions of anxiety, depression, or burnout. Maybe you felt hope that treatment could actually be different this time. Maybe you’re tired of struggling alone and ready to accept support.
Whatever brought you here, we want you to know that reaching out is not weakness. It’s the beginning of something new. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you call. You don’t need to be in crisis to deserve help. You just need to take one step—and we’ll walk alongside you from there.
Contact Aurora for Women today to learn whether our Full Day Program is right for you. We’ll answer your questions honestly, explain the admissions process clearly, and help you understand what to expect. No pressure, no judgment—just real conversation about what you need and how we can help.
Weekly therapy works well for many people. You might benefit from more intensive treatment if: you've tried weekly therapy without seeing the progress you hoped for; you're in a crisis or particularly difficult period; you have co-occurring concerns that feel overwhelming; or you need more support to build and practice new coping skills. There's no single right answer—it depends on your individual situation.
Yes. Trauma-focused counseling specifically addresses how traumatic experiences affect you, using approaches designed to help you process these experiences safely. Clinicians trained in trauma work understand the importance of pacing, safety, and not retraumatizing clients during treatment.
Dual diagnosis means having both a mental health condition and a substance use disorder at the same time. Integrated treatment addresses both issues together, recognizing how they influence each other. This approach tends to be more effective than treating each condition separately.
Many women maintain work or other responsibilities while in treatment. Our morning and evening half day treatment programs are specifically designed to accommodate different schedules. During your initial conversations with us, we can discuss which program might work best for your situation.
Start by being honest about what you're experiencing and what level of support you think you need. Consider whether weekly therapy has been sufficient in the past, what your schedule allows, and what specific concerns you're facing. Speaking with our team can help clarify which program might be the best match—we're happy to talk through the options without pressure.
